Waxing Phil is an indie / folk / rock / jam band based in Minneapolis, MN, USA. The full time players in the band include singer /songwriter Trixie D., drummer and percussionist G, lead guitar / pedal steel / mandolin, etc. player AJ Piga, and bass player Craig Butler. Drawing on influences and experience in many differing genres, including singer/songwriter, folk, rock, punk, psychedelia, bluegrass, jazz, blah, blah, blah.... the band creates a diverse mix of songs, which may differ each time they are played. (See the attached rehearsal wall photo) Beginning with solid songwriting, great hooks, and a penchant for improvisation (and cigarettes, beer, bourbon, world peace and incense- in no particular order), Waxing Phil often disguises its original songs as covers and vice versa. The band are strong believers in the long-standing tradition of "taping", thus preserving the energy captured in a live show. In that spirit, Waxing Phil records each of its rehearsals and live performances, creating a well documented history of the band. Please feel free to browse the Extras page for rarities, outtakes and live performances. A stated philosophy of Waxing Phil is to make enough music to make enough money to make more music. (If you are a visual person, picture it like the recycling symbol).
Currently preparing to release its second full-length studio album, Unrefined, in December 2006, the band is excited to take its new material on the road and begin working and reworking its songs for the next _____ (a. album; b. show; c. rehearsal; d. tour; e. campfire; f. all of the above).
Waxing Phil welcomes all who care to join them in their musical stroll through time and space.
Welcome.
